Review Jersey Shore Season 5

Hey there, beat-beaters. I'm Jager Weatherby from Wetpaint Entertainment, and I'm here to demystify Vinny and The Situation's abrupt, albeit temporary, exits from the Jersey Shore set while shooting Season 5. Let's get to it.

So, why the walk-offs? Well, Vinny seemed to be battling a bout of homesickness, since — after six weeks of shooting in Italy — the cast was forced to jump straight into shooting Season 5 in Seaside Heights, with only a few days of break time in between. Anyone who knows Vinny knows that he needs to catch up on quality time with Mama Guadagnino...and her cooking.

When Mike felt similarly pressured by the oh-so-grueling production schedule, he too bailed, and told paparazzi waiting in front of the house that he didn't need luck to survive outside the Shore house.

Of course, both cast members came crawling back hours later to carry out their Season 5 sentences — although, Vinny did enjoy a brief respite back in his native Staten Island, where there was undoubtedly a box of Entenmann's doughnuts awaiting his arrival.

And you know what? We think they made the right move. Series creator SallyAnn Salsano — a self-professed reformed guidette who used to spend her summers at the Shore Snookin' for love just like the rest of the macaroni rascals — has said time and again that Jersey Shore types are a dime a dozen. It really isn't about a particular cast dynamic, although this happens to be an uber-entertaining one. And if the cast members' one-night-stands are any indication, finding potential characters for future seasons is almost as easy as making fun of the ones we've got.

So we encourage the original cast (plus Deena) to ride out their contracts as long as MTV will let them. Because there will always be a new crop of kids prepared to behave like idiots on camera in exchange for MTV-subsidized booze. And isn't that what America's all about?
